New Economy Forum Workshop: Digital-by-Design: Beyond Technology-Led Digital Reforms

|

Location: G-07

NEF Banner

Overview

This interactive workshop, facilitated by the IMF Creative Lab, invites participants to explore an approach to digital transformation that combines strategic design, behavioral insights, and systems thinking to strengthen the effectiveness of digital public infrastructure and payment ecosystems. Digital-by-Design places policy objectives, user needs, and institutional outcomes at the center of reform efforts, challenging technology-first approaches that often prioritize infrastructure and platforms while overlooking the processes, incentives, governance arrangements, and human behaviors that ultimately determine success. Designed for policymakers, central bankers, payment system operators, government agencies, financial sector stakeholders, and development partners, the session moves from concept to practice through a structured exercise. Participants will identify where existing practices create friction, fragmentation, or accountability gaps, and explore how digital tools, data standards, governance arrangements, and process redesign can work together to strengthen efficiency, resilience, inclusion, and development outcomes.
