Ilan Goldfajn is the Governor of Banco Central do Brasil since mid June 2016, after Presidential nomination and Senate approval. He is also a member of the BIS Board of Directors. He was Deputy Governor for Economic Policy at Banco Central do Brasil from September 2000 to July 2003. More recently, he was Chief Economist at Itaú Unibanco from April 2009 to May 2016. Governor Goldfajn was partner at Gavea Investimentos and founding partner at Ciano investimentos. He held academic positions as Professor at Pontifícia Universidade Católica (PUC) do Rio de Janeiro and at Brandeis University, and was Director of think tanks in Brazil such as the Center for Public Policy Debate (CDPP) and at the Instituto de Ensino e Pesquisa em Economia da Casa das Garças. Earlier in his career Mr. Goldfajn worked as Economist at International Monetary Fund and as consultant at other international organizations such as World Bank and United Nations. Mr. Goldfajn holds a PhD degree in Economics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a Master degree in Economics from Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro and a Bacharel degree in Economics from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro.
