Analytical Corner: Distributional Impacts of External Food Price Shocks to Low-Income Countries

OVERVIEW

 

Low-income countries are particularly vulnerable to external disruptions. Using a heterogenous agents’ model, we find that the recession and inflation caused by shocks increase inequality by hitting mostly poor households unable to cut their subsistence consumption.
