OVERVIEW

 

In an era of increasingly complex policy challenges, innovative solutions are more crucial than ever. To effectively tackle global socioeconomic and climate issues, the IMF and its member countries must utilize more granular and timely data sources, extending beyond traditional official statistics. Recognizing this need, the IMF is committed to harnessing advanced data analytics to deliver prompt and accurate policy advice during crises, help countries build resilience, and drive transformational reforms changes. This seminar will serve as a platform for high-level officials to convene, exchange ideas, and explore the important role of Big Data in transformative policymaking

Bert Kroese
Chief Statistician, Data Officer, and Director of the Statistics Department, IMF

Bert Kroese is Chief Statistician, Data Officer, and Director of the Statistics Department at the IMF. Before joining the Fund, he worked for 25 years at Statistics Netherlands. He served in various expert, management, and (senior) director roles in the fields of methodology and economic statistics. From 2013 until 2022, he acted as Deputy Director-General and CIO with special focus on and responsibility for IT and Innovation. In 2014 and 2020 (at the start of the Coronavirus pandemic), he was acting Director-General for a short stint.

Bo Li
Deputy Managing Director of the IMF

Bo Li assumed the role of Deputy Managing Director at the IMF on August 23, 2021. He is responsible for the IMF’s work on about 90 countries as well as on a wide range of policy issues.

Before joining the IMF, Mr. Li worked for many years at the People’s Bank of China, most recently as Deputy Governor. He earlier headed the Monetary Policy, Monetary Policy II, and Legal and Regulation Departments, where he played an important role in the reform of state-owned banks, the drafting of China’s anti-money-laundering law, the internationalization of the renminbi, and the establishment of China’s macroprudential policy framework.

Ceyla Pazarbasioglu
Director of the Strategy, Policy, and Review Department, IMF

Ceyla Pazarbasioglu is Director of the Strategy, Policy, and Review Department (SPR) of the IMF. In this capacity, she leads the work on the IMF’s strategic direction and the design, implementation, and evaluation of Fund policies. She also oversees the IMF’s interactions with international bodies, such as the G20 and United Nations.

Yusuf Murangwa
Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Rwanda

Yusuf Murangwa is the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning of Rwanda since June 2024. He previously served as the Director General of the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda. In this role, he focused on building capacity of the national statistics system in Rwanda and advocating for the use of evidence in policy and decision-making.

 

Marie-Christine Tremblay
Senior Policy Advisor, Bank of Canada

Marie-Christine Tremblay is Senior Policy Advisor in the International Economic Analysis Department since January 2024. She is responsible for developing analysis on emerging global areas of interest to the Bank of Canada. Previously, Ms. Tremblay was a Director in the Financial Stability Department. In this capacity, she helped advance the analysis and research on the macroeconomic and financial system impacts of climate change.

 

Olaf Sleijpen
Executive Board Member, Dutch Central Bank

Olaf Sleijpen is Executive Board Member of De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB), the Dutch central bank, and a member of DNB’s Prudential Supervision Council. In this capacity, he is responsible for DNB’s work in the area of financial regulation, covering-among others-banks, insurance undertakings and pension funds. Since 2007, he has also been part-time professor holding an endowed chair in European Economic Policy at Maastricht University.
