How exactly does financial inclusion impact a country’s output and level of inequality? What are policies most effective in promoting it? We group barriers to financial inclusion in three dimensions—access to credit, depth of credit, and intermediation efficiency. We find that developing tailored policies first requires understanding country-specific barriers to financial inclusion.
