Overview

Labor markets in Asia face significant pressures. Populations are aging and workforces are shrinking in some economies, while job creation needs are large in others. Additional challenges include significant underemployment, skill mismatches, and youth unemployment in several Asian economies. Against this backdrop, this presentation will examine how the rapid rise of artificial intelligence is reshaping labor markets across the region using granular new data on job postings and worker profiles. It will focus on several key questions: Are there already signs that AI is impacting labor demand? What are the implications for aggregate labor demand? How can countries with expected labor shortages or job creation needs respond?
