The 2026 Annual Meetings flagship book on Shaping the Future of Asia: Opportunities and Challenges presents policy-oriented research by staff of the IMF’s Asia and Pacific Department (APD) and other departments on key trends shaping Asia’s long-term prosperity and stability, including the demographic transition, rising protectionism and geoeconomic fragmentation, evolving patterns of trade and financial integration, technological transformation, and the energy transition.

It offers analytical perspectives on how these trends may affect prospects of the Asia and Pacific region and discusses policies and reforms needed to adapt to them.

This book launch event features a presentation of the main messages of the book and a high-level panel discussion that assesses these challenges and opportunities through a long-term lens and explores how Asia can maintain strong, inclusive, and resilient growth while adapting to a rapidly changing world.
