In a fast-changing and uncertain world, IMF members face difficult choices in preserving stability and sustaining growth amid successive shocks, eroded policy buffers, rising vulnerabilities, and powerful structural transformations. This seminar will examine how five major 2026 institutional reviews are adapting the Fund’s policy toolkit to members’ evolving needs: the Comprehensive Surveillance Review; the Review of Program Design and Conditionality; the Financial Sector Assessment Program Review; the joint IMF–World Bank Low-Income Country Debt Sustainability Framework Review; and the Review of the External Balance Assessment Methodology. Together, they aim to sharpen risk identification and management, deepen understanding of macro-financial linkages, strengthen policy frameworks tailored to country circumstances, and make Fund engagement more agile and responsive. Bringing together the IMF’s institutional perspective, policymaking experience, and academic insights, the discussion will focus on what these reforms mean in practice for Fund membership.
