Overview

Artificial intelligence is moving rapidly from technological promise to economic reality, transforming how businesses operate, how goods and services are produced and delivered, and how people learn and work. As AI adoption accelerates, policymakers and business leaders face critical questions about productivity, growth, labor markets, financial stability, public policy, and economic resilience.

Drawing on recent and forthcoming IMF research, this seminar will explore how countries can harness the benefits of AI while managing its economic, financial and social risks. Bringing together leaders from government, central banking, global business, and the forefront of AI innovation, the discussion will examine how AI is reshaping industries, global value chains and labor markets, influencing investment, productivity and competitiveness, and creating new opportunities for growth and development.

Panelists will explore how businesses are deploying AI to improve efficiency, strengthen resilience, and unlock new opportunities, while considering the challenges associated with technological disruption, market concentration, and cyber and financial stability risks. It will also examine the policies needed to foster innovation, equip workers with the skills needed for an AI-driven economy, safeguard economic and financial stability, and ensure that the gains from AI are widely shared. Particular attention will be given to the opportunities and challenges facing Asia-Pacific economies as they accelerate digital transformation and navigate the transition to an AI-driven future.
