Overview

Anthropic co-founder Jack Clark will deliver this year’s Per Jacobsson Foundation lecture titled “Inside the Event Horizon: Why Everyone Should Take AI Progress Seriously”. The lecture will describe the next few years of AI progress and the vast, wide-ranging changes it could bring to the economy and daily life. It will directly confront economic questions implied by the continued pace of AI progress, including significant changes in the rate of scientific discovery, advancements in robotics, the autonomy and economic impact of machine-driven businesses, and perhaps the capabilities of AI systems to contribute to their own production in a process of “recursive self-improvement”.

Per Jacobsson Foundation President, Nigel Clarke, will provide opening remarks.

The event will be moderated by Per Jacobsson Foundation Chair, Raghuram Rajan, and discussants for the event will be V. Anantha Nageswaran, the 18th Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India, and Yan Shen, Professor of Economics and Ant Chair Professor at the National School of Development, Peking University. A moderated panel discussion with Jack Clark and the discussants will follow the lecture.

The Per Jacobsson Foundation annual lecture aims to stimulate discussion on the most pressing questions in international monetary and financial affairs.
