IMFC Deputies Meeting
IMFC Deputies met on April 6-7 in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, to prepare the IMFC ministerial meetings. This was the first-ever IMFC meeting held in the Kingdom. The IMFC Chair, His Excellency Minister Aljadaan, and the IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva delivered opening messages to the participants.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Ryadh Alkhareif, Chair of the IMFC Deputies, and focused on key global economic challenges and ways to safeguard global macroeconomic and financial stability. Participants also discussed the IMF's work agenda for the upcoming period.
The meeting also featured high-level panels on two timely topics: “Breaking from the low-growth, high-debt path” and “Strengthening the Global Financial Safety Net”. The former was moderated by Ms. Lindsey Whyte (UK Treasury) and featured as speakers the IMF First Deputy Managing Director Gita Gopinath; Mr. Pablo Quirno (Secretary of Finance, Argentina); and Ms. Anna Bjerde (World Bank). The latter was moderated by Mr. Steven Kuhn (Department of Finance, Canada), and featured as keynote speaker Dr. Fahad Alturki (Director General, Arab Monetary Fund), and other speakers including the IMF First Deputy Managing Director Gita Gopinath; Mr. Atsushi Minmura (Ministry of Finance, Japan); and Mr. Riccardo Barbieri Hermitte (Ministry of Economy and Finance, Italy).
In addition to the formal agenda, Deputies also had the opportunity to participate in a cultural tour of the historic city of Diriyah.
